HHS Boys Basketball Teams Soar at District Tournament

On February 15, 2019 the Holston Cavalier Boys Varsity Basketball Team won their 1st Hogoheegee Tournament in school history by a score of 59-54 against the Chilhowie Warriors.  Behind a tenacious defensive effort and hot shooting the Cavaliers held a 34-17 halftime lead and held off a furious comeback attempt by the Warriors to seal their first ever Tournament Championship. The Cavaliers exhibited a balanced attack in claiming the victory with four players reaching double figures, Jordan K. (13 points), Ben H. (14 points), Layton H. (10 points) and Nathan M. (16 points).  The Championship game capped off a week where the Cavaliers picked up a 68-66 victory over the 2nd seeded Northwood Panthers earlier in the week and touched off a jubilant celebration by the Holston Fans in attendance! Team members are Seniors: Ben H. #3, Mason K. #12, Eric R. #24, Caleb C. #30, Nathan M. #34, Gage F. #44 and Juniors, Jordan K. #00, Brandon V. #10, Layton H. #20, Justin H. #22, and Austin F. #32.

The Junior Varsity Boys Basketball team entered the season hungry for the chance to play in the district title game. They set the goal for themselves to win each day, finishing as 1-0. Those 1-0 days in practice and in competition soon began to add up as they would find themselves ending the regular season with the record of 18-3, including an unblemished district record.  The team topped off a spectacular season winning a 46-42 overtime thriller over Chilhowie in the District championship game. This game meant much more than a trophy or the crowing of champions. It proved to the young cavaliers that they had what it took to be champions on the court and off. They showed that they were able to overcome adversity on and off the court to achieve their common goal. They proved to themselves that they have what it takes to succeed at whatever it is they put their minds to.
