HOLSTON FBLA CLUB VISITS BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Holston High School’s Future Business Leaders of America Club visited the Bristol Motor Speedway on Thursday, March 9th. Students had the opportunity to see what it takes to run a large racing facility. Mr. David Baldwin gave the students an inside tour of the track, finish line, drag way, and even a great panoramic view of the track from the Bristol Club suite. While at the Speedway, students saw how much work is put into just one event. For example, the staff was already painting and setting up for the April race! Mr. Baldwin also showed the students where the NASCAR drivers and the media stay on the grounds while at the Speedway. The bus also went down the drag way and arrived just in time to see five deer run across the end of the strip. Luckily, there were not any cars traveling through at over 300 mph at the time.
Students were asked for comments on their tour. Junior Sierra M. learned that, “Colossus, the jumbo screen in the center of the track weighs over 700 tons.” Another junior, Jacob V. found out that, “The price to rent skyboxes can go as high as $125,000” and he plans on reserving one or two suites for a future race. Junior Leah C. said that, “It was a great learning experience for any one going into a business related field of any size.” The FBLA would like to thank BMS and Mr. Baldwin for their hospitality in making this industry visit an enjoyable and successful event.
