Ryland H. and Jordan K. Set New HHS Marks

In a rare juxtaposition, two of Holston High School's greatest runners of all time are racing their way to school records. Jordan K. and Ryland H. have gotten the attention of their coaches, their teammates, and---mostly---their competitors. Both of these scholar athletes were teammates on this year's successful 2017 Cross Country Team and will join forces again this spring on the HHS Outdoor Track Team.

During the season, Jordan set and then broke the record for boys' individual time. He broke the 16 minute mark at a meet at Sugar Hollow, setting a new HHS course record. He finished the season as the individual Hogoheegee boys' champion and went on to place 3rd in the state. He also led the boys' Holston XC team as they made their first trip to the state finals as a group in over twenty-five years. Ryland won individual meets at the Tazewell and Council Courses. She moved on to star on the Indoor Track Team this winter. At a recent meet at Heritage High School in Lynchburg, she set a new school girls' record for the long jump (16 ft., 7 in.). Last year she also set a new girls' milestone for the 300 meter hurdles, turning in a time of 50:58. In addition, she led the Holston Relay Team to a win at the state track finals in Manassas last spring.

It is unusual that these two superior runners would both be attending Holston at the same time. The HHS community is proud while the competition is fearful. Given the raw talent of the pair, more coveted landmarks are destined to fall.
