The Johnston Memorial Hospital Bloodmobile made its annual visit to Holston High School on Monday, February 1, 2016. HHS responded with an outpouring of support for the bus and its mission. A bevy of student volunteers assisted the specialists on board the bus by escorting students to the donation area when their appointment time came. Over 30 people signed up to donate and nearly all of them were ultimately eligible to do so.
Faculty and parents were among those who gave blood. HHS students heralded the success of the drive. Student Miranda H. said: “”Knowing my donation may help save three lives is really encouraging.” Student Mekenzie C. added: “It’s rewarding for students at Holston to know they are really helping out in our area.”
The professional staff on board reviewed permission slips for completeness, asked qualifying questions, did blood pressure checks, and provided donors with light snacks and drinks. Teacher Sammy Campbell, who volunteers with local emergency services, coordinated the event.
