Bristol TN/VA Association of Realtors (BVTAR) -- Write a 500-word essay on "What Home Ownership Means to Me."  It could be worth $500 if you are chosen.  More information is in the Guidance Office.  Deadline is March 27, 2018.
 
Southwest Virginia Alliance for Manufacturing, Inc. (SVAM) Manufacturing Related Scholarship -- (www.swvam.org/svam-scholarship) Student must be seeking education in a manufacturing-related filed with a desire to pursue a career in manufacturing, preferably in southwest Virginia.  Applicants are considered on the basis of two letters of recommendation, GPA, Financial need, career path, applicant's desire to stay in the region, interview, employment, technical trainng experience.  Please get the application in the Guidance Office.  Deadline is April 2, 2018.
 
Blue Ridge Job Corps -- If you are planning to attend Wytheville or Virginia Highlands Community College to study a health career, the Job Corps can help with finances.  Contact Jordan Loupe (Loupe.Jordan@jobcorps.org).  He is willing to come to HHS.
 
Mattress Help Scholarship -- (https://mattresshelp.org)- Student must have at least a 3.0 GPA and plan to pursue a degree at an accredited US post-secondary institution.  Submit an application and video by Sept. 25, 2018.  See the Guidance Office for more details.
 
Armenian Education Center/Scholarship -- This is an essay question contest which addresses the Holocaust and other examples of genocide.  Deadline is April 9.  (www.armenian-educationcenter.org)
 
BBB Student of Integrity -- (www.bbbstudentofintegrity.org) Apply online.  Deadline is January 31, 2018. 
 
AXA Achievement Scholarship -- The scholarship recognizes students who have "Ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family, ability to succeed in college.community. Deadline is December 15. Apply online at axaachievement@scholarshipamerica.org.
 
Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund --Requirements:  "3.0 minimum GPA, will attend 4-year college, demonstrate leadership abilities through participating in community services or other extra curricular activities, parents' adjusted income cannot exceed $50,000." Application instructions are in the Guidance Office.  Deadline is March 31, 2018.
 
Virginia Tech Pamplin Leadership Award - This goes to 40 qualified students in Virginia.  The school nominee must have at least a 3.8 GPA, "demonstrate superior intellectual promise and academic performance, dedication to their communities, interest and success in physical fitness and health, and unimpeachable integrity."
 
Virginia Junior Chamber International Senate (VA JCI Senate) -- Application and requirements may be fount at http://www.usjcisenate.org/index.php/programs/scholarship.  Deadline is January 5, 2018.
 
Scholars Helping Collars Scholarship --This is a $1000 scholarship for one student who can tell the best story describing the impact he or she made in the life of a rescue animal oranimal welfare cause in general. More information may be found at www.petplay.com/scholarship.

JOHN R. LEONARD AVIATION SCHOLARSHIP, KENNETH R. SCOTT AVIATION SCHOLARSHIP, WILLARD G. PLENTL AVIATION SCHOLARSHIP, and VIRGINIA AVIATION BUSINESS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP -- (www.doav.virginia.gov) More information on the scholarships may be found in the Guidance Office.  If you are interested in a career in aviation, these scholarships are for you.
 
FAFSA.GOV -- go to this website to apply for financial aid of all types.  You will need information about your family's 2016 income based on earned income reported on the 2016 Income Tax statement.  Make sure you go to .gov and not .com (a scam).
 
 
PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS - Complete application online at spirit.prudential.com or nassp.org/spirit by November 7, 2017. Submit application to the school principal or official organization such as 4-H, American Red Cross, etc. This award recognizes students "who have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service."
 
JEFFERSON SCHOLARSHIP - This is a school nominated scholarship to U Va.  Please sign up in the Guidance Office if you wish to be considered for this nomination.

 

AMERICAN LEGION HIGH SCHOOL ORATORICAL CONTEST: Visit www.legion.org/oratorical for contest rules and requirements.

HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP:  "Eligibility criteria include highschool graduation in spring/summer, demonstrated critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income), and United States citizenship."  Go to scholarshps@horatioalger.org for more information.  Deadline is October 25.

ROAN SCHOLARS LEADERSHIP PROGRAM:  This is a school nominated student who "demonstrate character, intellectual curiosity, physical vigor, and leadership.  Financial need is not a consideration. Please see Mrs. Addison in the Guidance Office or go to roanscholars@etsu.edu for more information.

WENDY'S HIGH SCHOOL HEISMAN SCHOLARSHIP :  Applicants must have a 3.0 or higher GPA, participation in at least one school-sponsored sport, and demonstrate leadership at school and in the community.  Go to wendysheisman.com to apply. Deadline is October 2, 2017.

2018 US SENATE YOUTH PROGRAM (SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS AND SENIORS):  The Virginia Department of Education will select two student delegates to represent Virginia in the US Senate Youth Program sponsored by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.  Each delegate will receive a $10,000 scholarship and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the week of March 3-10, 2018. The school nominee should possess the following qualities:

  • leadership ability;
  • high scholastic standing and demonstrated ability to achieve;
  • clear speech and logical thought processes;
  • community involvement; and
  • participation in a wide selection of activities on and off campus such as sports, arts, and politics.
