On Friday, March 6th, the Holston High School Chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America Club attended the Regional Spring Leadership Conference and Award Ceremony at George Wythe High School. HHS is a member of the New River Region for FBLA. This region is comprised of 22 high schools stretching east to west from John S. Battle to Pulaski County and stretching to the West Virginia and North Carolina state lines, as it reaches from Tazewell and Narrows high schools on the north to Galax and Grayson County on the south.
Holston had several students place in the event and qualify for the State FBLA Convention and Competition which will be held outside of Washington D.C. the weekend after Easter. Those finishers included three first place winners, Brandon P. for Impromptu Speaking, Jacob G. for Client Service, and Chlowe T. for Intro to Public Speaking. As part of her first place finish, Chlowe was able to deliver her speech to all the students and teachers in attendance at the event. Brandon P. had this quote to say about the conference. "I found the Leadership Conference to be very educational and a good example for leaders coming up in our nation." There were two second place winners on the day for the HHS FBLA. These included Carson B. in the Job Interview category and Morgan W. in Public Speaking. Morgan is the HHS Chapter President and is also the first HHS student to hold a Regional Officer position, as she is the New River Regional Reporter. Skye H. finished 3rd in the Financial Math category, while seniors Abbey C. and Morgan C. will present their Business Plan at the State Competition. Morgan C. stated that, "The FBLA Leadership Conference was a great experience for me. It shows all the educational and social benefits gained from participating in the organization." Congratulations to the FBLA students and good luck to them in the State Competition.
